Pender Island Travel Guide
Welcome to Pender Island!
Although commonly referred to simply as Pender Island, there are in fact two islands: North Pender and South Pender. The Islands, encircled by the crisp waters of the Straight of Georgia, are halfway between Victoria and Vancouver, and are accessible via ferries, floatplanes and boat charters. Their combined population is modest but triples in the summer, when kayakers, scuba divers, anglers and honeymooners descend on the Penders. North Pender houses most of the population as well as an interesting selection of shops and a golf course. While largely rural, South Pender features the customs dock, a bustling marina and two well-used hiking trails. Both of the islands attract artists from all genres, with several art galleries and private studios dotting the area. Each year in the early fall, North Pender Island plays host to the Pender Island Fall Fair, an event that has brought together islanders since the 1950's with exhibits, markets and live entertainment.
